Chief Winemaker Bruce Jack
A Capetonian whose curiosity and palette has taken him the length and breadth of the globe. Bruce completed his undergrad in Political Science and Literature at UCT and then read his Masters in Literature at St Andrew’s in Scotland. His subsequent winemaking degree came from the Roseworthy Campus at the University of Adelaide, Australia. Bruce is a pioneer, and in many respects a maverick, and what he brings to winemaking is an articulate opinion about his greatest passion.

Andrew studied Literature and Sociology at UCT before setting off on a global trek that saw him working under the seas of the Caribbean, on the snow covered slopes of the Canadian Rockies and writing for a variety of financial and travel institutions. Now at home in Cape Town, Andrew’s passion for wine and writing is married on this blog.

While Bruce regaled members of the Johannesburg Country Club at one of the club’s prestigious wine and dine events, Gerhard delighted the top clients of our namesake, Flagstone Financial Group, at the elegant Brio 1893 restaurant on Cape Town’s Adderly Street.
On Thursday 28 July, Flagstone’s Bruce Jack and Gerhard Swart entertained wine lovers and clients at separate events in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The Johannesburg Country Club’s fare included venison and dried fruit cannelloni, grilled Red Snapper, Camembert and Orange Marmalade, and Mille Feuille, intriguingly paired with latest vintages of flagstone’s Writer’s Block Pinotage, Dark Horse Shiraz and The Last Word Port, and accompanied by Bruce’s account of the quirk and flourish that makes Flagstone synonymous with stimulation of the senses and the grey matter. The introduction of our sparkling sherry was again met with cheer, we’re looking forward to the public launch of this product later this year.
At the same time Gerhard conducted a wine tasting evening for Flagstone Financial Services, entertaining this institution’s top clients with a history of the wines and the character behind their names before hosting an entertaining quiz to round off an illuminating evening.
We’d like to thank and welcome our new Flagstone fanatics to our distinctive wine club, we look forward raising many glasses of flagstone together.
