Flagstone Delights Bloemfontein and Kimberley Wine Enthusiasts

Last week Flagstone accompanied some of the most prestigious wineries in the Western Cape to showcase a selection of our wines to our friends and customers in Bloemfontein and Kimberley.

The Bloemfontein tasting, hosted by Pick ‘n Pay, was held at Oliewenhuis, a Neo-Dutch style mansion that provided residence for the Governor General of the Union of South Africa during the 1940’s. This same residence also played host to King George VI and his family before becoming the official residence for South Africa’s State Presidents. A suitably grand venue to host the wine tasting.

Writer’s Block Pinotage and Free Run Sauvignon Blanc emerged as firm favourites on the evening, with numerous tasters coming back to congratulate Gerhard on making, “the best wine at the show.”

On Thursday we moved on to Kimberley where we were hosted at the charming Kimberley Club. Founded by Cecil John Rhodes and the diamond industry’s top men in 1881, this elegant venue sparkled with late 19th century memorabilia and took us all back to an era where famous visitors like King George IV and Queen Victoria graced the club with their presence.

Writer’s Block again left a lasting impression on the evening’s guests, being noted as the occasion’s stand out wine.

A week steeped in national and international history, old towns, memorabilia, great company and an excellent reception to Flagstone’s wines, we’ll be remembering this week for a long time. Thank you to all involved.
