Chief Winemaker Bruce Jack
A Capetonian whose curiosity and palette has taken him the length and breadth of the globe. Bruce completed his undergrad in Political Science and Literature at UCT and then read his Masters in Literature at St Andrew’s in Scotland. His subsequent winemaking degree came from the Roseworthy Campus at the University of Adelaide, Australia. Bruce is a pioneer, and in many respects a maverick, and what he brings to winemaking is an articulate opinion about his greatest passion.

Flagstone Follows on from 2010’s Show Award Success Posted on October 05 2011 by
Flagstone has followed on from last year's impressive show award success and is proving once again that we are consistently judged one of the best wineries in South Africa.
Airline and monopoly tenders are always a good barometer of quality and this year we learnt that our Noon Gun 2010 will be flying with South African Airways in 2012 and will join our jet-setting Longitude 2010 that will fly with Lufthansa, in 2013.
We started the awards season with two of our wines in the SA Top 100 wines - the Flagstone Dark Horse Shiraz and Flagstone Treaty Tree Reserve White Blend. Next up was the SA Young wine show where our winemakers brought home 5 Category Trophies at the regional finals and two National Trophies for the best Semillon and the best white blend in South Africa.
At The Michelangelo International Wine awards Flagstone Writer’s Block 2009 won a double gold medal which shows the consistent quality of this block as the 2007 as well as the 2008 vintages won ABSA Top 10 Pinotage places.
At the Mundus Vini International wine competition judged and announced in Germany, three Flagstone wines took home Gold medals - the Flagstone Dragon Tree Cape Red 2008, the Flagstone Music Room Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 and the Flagstone Writer’s Block Single Vineyard Pinotage 2008.
Most recently, two of our wines won top Diamond Awards at the annual South African Winemakers Choice awards. This competition is unique in that it is judged by winemakers.
But perhaps the most exciting accolades this year came at the annual Wine of the Month Club Awards lunch. The Wine of the Month Club has what many believe to be the most experienced panel of wine experts in the country.
This year it was announced that both the Winery of the Year Trophy and the Winemaker of the Year Trophy will be sitting on Flagstone’s shelf. These are incredible achievements for Flagstone and we congratulate Bruce, Gerhard and the winery team on a job well done.
