Top Honours for Writers Block Pinotage

The multi-award winning 2016 Writers Block Pinotage is the toast of the town this week.

It’s been a wonderful week at Flagstone Wines. We’re celebrating our 2016 Writers Block Pinotage winning the best Pinotage at the 2018 Novare South African Terroir Wine Awards and winning the trophy for the SA Terroir Top Single Vineyard Wine. The Novare South African Terroir Wine Awards honours the wines which truly portray South Africa’s different wine growing areas. All entries must be a certified Wine of Origin from a specific single vineyard, estate, ward or small district not divided into wards.

The 2016 Writers Block Pinotage is short listed as a finalist for the 2018 Absa Top 10 Pinotage Competition. The Absa Top 10 Pinotage trophy is one of the most sought-after accolades for cellarmasters, winery proprietors and wine brand marketers in South Africa. A record number of 161 entries were received by the competition organisers.  Neil Ellis (proprietor of Neil Ellis Wines) chaired the team of experienced palates who deliberated at the judging venue of Nederburg in Paarl, with the other panellists including wine educator Nomonde Kubheka, wine maker Francois Haasbrook, wine writer Samarie Smith and Francois Rautenbach, wine buyer for Singita Premier Wine Direct.

Gerhard Swart’s mastery of Pinotage continues to draw the praise of critics, judges and Flagstone fans, one suspects the 2016 vintage is just getting warmed up.
