Flagstone’s Dark Horse Shiraz Can’t Be Locked Down
The 12 winners of the Shiraz SA Challenge 2020 were announced on Thursday, July 30 in a virtual awards ceremony hosted by Shiraz SA.
The glitzy event took place online for 2020, “Sadly we could not go ahead with the traditional tasting of finalists, luncheon and announcement of the winners and the online affair was the best second place we could come up with,” says Edmund Terblanche, chairman of Shiraz SA.
Nevertheless, the virtual event drew producers, consumers and media tuning for the announcement of the top-scoring wines.
This is the 3rd appearance for Flagstone’s Dark Horse Shiraz in the 8 years the Shiraz SA Challenge has run. Our 2013 Dark Horse Shiraz placed in the 2017 competition, while the 2015 vintage featured in the 2019 competition. It’s always a pleasure to be in the esteemed company the Shiraz SA Challenge attracts .
We hand-pick our delicious grapes in the quiet, cool of early morning. Lovingly tendered fermentation takes place in open top fermenters, using ancient wine crafting methods. This ensures delicious, age-worthy wine with a silky structure and a brooding, mysterious nature, capable of surprising you with its power and energy – a real Dark Horse!
Colour
Dark, rich plummy colour.
Bouquet
Complex combination of dark fruits, white pepper, dark chocolate and a hint of mint supported by subtle spicy undertones.
Palate
The complexity on the nose flows over to the palate. The wine is big and round on entry with silky smooth tannins. Rich, ripe fruit on the back palate combined with a well-balanced acidity is responsible for a lingering finish and rounds off a perfectly balanced wine.
