Our Home
Flagstone Wines' journey began in the late 1990s with a passion for doing things differently. Early days were filled with long nights, hard work, and great wine. Starting out in a run-down Cape Town harbour depot, Flagstone became South Africa’s first urban winery. The space was affordable, and the team’s only security was a razorwire fence and a trusty Boxer dog named Malo.
The spirit of creativity and adventure drove the team, who often worked through the night, transporting crates and picking grapes at dawn. Flagstone was more than just a winery—it felt like a mix of a creative agency and an eco-movement. Despite the hard work, there was always room for fun and plenty of parties.
In 2002, Flagstone moved to a former dynamite factory in Somerset West, where they continue crafting wine with the same energy, joy, and passion that defined their early years. Today, the Flagstone Cellar Door offers a unique experience in this historic 1901 building, welcoming wine lovers from around the world.
